ふゆ休みのドラマ：PART 2

第二 show は「あまちゃん」です。これドラマは　今年アジアで　にんきがあります。百五十六 episodes がありますよ。
　

 

ストリーは少し complicated なので、英語でせつめい（説明, explain）します。すみません！

The story comes in two parts. In part one, a teenage girl named あき goes from とうきょう to her mother's very rural hometown, where she comes out of her quiet shell and blossoms into a symbol of youth and energy for the sleepy, elderly まち as an "あま”, a catcher of sea urchins (the town's specialty). She befriends ゆい, a young girl who wants to be an "idol" -- a word with laden connotations in Japan. Part two follows あき's as she returns to とうきょう to battle in the cruel world of aspiring young idols. Meanwhile, she gradually discovers the secrets of her family's past.

にぎやかて、かわいドラマですが、ストリーは　あまりはやくありません。ざんねんですね。私はあまり好きじゃないです...3/5 stars です.

ふゆ休みのドラマ：PART 1

うちでみっつ日本のテレビ channel があるので、たくさん shows とドラマをみます。

第一 show は Take Five です。ミストリのドラマですよ。

からさわ　としあき（唐沢寿明）は　とてもゆうめいな actor です。私のとこも時だいに　母は　大好きな actor でした。とうエピソードがあって、ながくありません。とても complicated story ですが、おもしろいです。でも、すこし corny なので... 4/5 stars です！

好きなテレビばんぐみ

When I was growing up, たいわんのテレビは　日本のチャンネルがあって、たくさん日本の　テレビばんぐみ（show）を　みました。When I was really young, 私のだいすきなばんぐみは「ペットの大集合！ポチたま」でした。かんじは「だいしゅうごう」－great gathering/collection です。Host と　ラブラドールは　いっしょに日本で　ペットをsearchにりょこうをしました。

ラブラドールのなまえは　まさおくん　です。

Host はまつもと（松本）です。

まさおくんは２００６に passed away...とてもなかしいでした！松本とまさおくんのsonは　continued the show. Son の名前は　だいすけくんです。

とってもかわいばんぐみでしたが、２０１０に stopped...　でも、松本は　あたらしいテレビばんぐみがあります！「だいすけ君が行く!!ポチたま新ペットの旅」です。

私はとてもかわい犬があります。ヨークシャーテリア（Yorkshire Terrier）です。なまえはムーキー（Mookie）です：

でも、that being said、私の大好きなひんしゅ（品種、breed）は日本のしばいぬ（柴犬）ですよ！

PE Reflection + More Goals

Over the past 7 weeks, I think I've definitely improved on my overall speed of shadowing. While the material I chose this time was still really challenging for me speed-wise, I managed to get close to what I wanted to achieve. I highly doubt that I could have come anywhere close to this in the first few weeks. I find that I still spend a lot of time reading over the material again and again until I almost have the sounds memorized in order to follow along. In the future, I want to try a mixture of monologues and dialogues (right now I've done more dialogues). I feel that monologues, where I wouldn't have to switch between characters and where the sentences are longer, would be more helpful with pitch while dialogues would be more challenging in terms of speed.

このあきやすみにかぞく（family）のうちにいきました。おばさん（aunt）のうちがニュージャージーのチェリーヒル（Cherry Hill）にあります。おばさんはおとうさんのいもうと（younger sister）です。おばのうちで cooking をしました！テレビとえいがをみました。そして、コンピュータの graphic design をしました。それはわたしの part-time job です。

あきやすみのもくようびにスワースモア（Swarthmore）大学にいきました。いとこ（cousin）はスワースモア大学のさんねん生です。いとことともだちとアメリカ / かんこくのアニメ（アバターでんせつのしょうねんアン / Avatar: The Last Airbender）をみました。そして、あたらしいえいがをいしょうにみました。えいがのなまえはエンダのゲーム（Ender's Game）です。いいえいがです、でも、エンダのゲームのほんはよい（better）ですよ。

わたしのすきなまんが

おおくのまんがをよみました。でも、わたしのすきなまんがは (even after all this time)...

藤子・F・不二雄（ふじこ・F・ふじお）の ドラえもん です！

Childrenのふるいまんがとアニメですよ。たいわんでたくさんのともだちはこのまんが/アニメをよみました/みました。そして、このうた (song) わかります：

The premise is that ドラえもん is a robot cat from the future who goes back in time to help a boy, のびた (I know him as 大雄 from watching it in ちゅごくご), who is good-hearted but does really poorly in school and has very bad luck overall. ドラえもん has many tools from the future that he uses to help out のびた, and essentially each episode is based around one tool. 

ドラえもんはアジアでとってもゆうめいな franchise ですよ! たくさんのえいががあります as well:

I can't describe how important this was to my childhood (which pretty much only consisted of this, Harry Potter, and Pokemon...let's be real here). I HIGHLY recommend it if you have younger siblings/relatives/babysittees/time for yourself.

アジアのステーショナリー

Trivia: I am an unabashed and slightly compulsive stationery snob. Growing in up in たいわん、I've always had easy access to a lot of にほん, たいわん, and かんこくの stationery (ステーショナリー ). It sounds incredibly nitpicky/obnoxious to those who have never used anything other than regular バールペン, but once you've experienced the miracle of a smooth finetip pen, there's just no going back. You write neater, smaller, faster -- the world is just a better place with Pilot and Uni-ball (if you watch Suits on テレビ, これわかります。). While Staples is nice and big, an Asian stationary store looks very, very different. Here's my favorite stationery outlet from home (タイペイです）:

Some of these are now available in アメリカ, and pretty much all of them can be found on this lovely website, でも unfortunately at much higher prices than in Asia... じゃあ、now that I've made myself sufficiently homesick, しゅくだいをします...

PE Goal!

My goal is to get the fast-paced parts in speech to be distinct in every consonant. Oftentimes in shadowing I find myself able to read the characters aloud clearly on paper but mumbling them incomprehensibly when I'm listening to the video while speaking.

King です。たいわんじんとアメリカじんです。いま、わたしわPrinceton だいがくのにねんせいです。せんこうわえいごのぶんがくです。どうぞよろしく！

はじめまして！

My name is Lin (リン?) and I'm a sophomore and prospective English major. I was born in Manhattan but spent about 17 years of my life in Taipei, Taiwan. Sorry in advance for the long post :)

As many might know, Taiwan was colonized by the Japanese from 1895 to 1945. Though some might think that this creates some type of resentment among the Taiwanese for the Japanese, actually it is only those in the Kuomintang (KMT/國民黨) who emigrated from China -- and thus fought war against the Japanese -- who hold any sort of grudge. My mom's family, which has been in Taiwan for many generations before the Japanese came, was thoroughly Japanese-ified.

My grandparents both learned 日本語 in school, in addition to buying Japanese products, taking vacations in Japan, following Japanese popular culture, and even studying and working in Japan for a short time. Needless to say, my mom (who doesn't speak Japanese at all) had a childhood heavily imbued with Japanese influences.

This carried over to my own upbringing. For as long as I can remember, I've followed Japanese anime, manga, drama, movies, and music (all in Chinese) -- simply by virtue of living in Taiwan, where popular culture still closely follows and imitates that of the Japanese. My favorite childhood companion remains to be ドラえもん (Doraemon), and my favorite contemporary artist 宮崎駿 (Miyazaki Hayao). One of my favorite shows of all time, which miraculously made a comeback this summer after a 10-year hiatus, is ショムニ (Shomuni), which is amazing and hilarious and highly highly recommended. My favorite manga include シャマンキング (Shaman King), ワンピース (One Piece), and 鋼の煉金術師 (Fullmetal Alchemist).

These are all things I love that I share with many of my Taiwanese friends, but not really with that many here at Princeton. I would love to change this fact as well as learn much more about this culture that has been so integral in my life this year!

I've been to Japan three times (I think): to Tokyo, Nara, Kyoto, and Osaka. I was actually just there this summer for four days with my parents. Here are some pictures:
